8 Quick Fixes For Your “Scary” Bathroom
Posted by Staff on 13th Jun 2023
Does your bathroom give you the willies?
Does it look like it’s from the set of an 80’s horror film? Well for the last 2 weeks in October that maybe cool, but once you start to head into the holiday season it might be time to use several quick fixes to make your bathroom a brighter, less scary place.
1. GET RID OF THE CLUTTER.
This is number one for a reason; it will have to be done before the other fixes anyway. Some bathrooms have every available surface covered with some “essential” item that’s part of the morning routine. It maybe time to have a bathroom purge under the vanity and in the medicine cabinet to make room for the stuff that’s all over the place. If the vanity is big enough you can even install some kitchen cabinet organizers to better utilize you its space.
2. GET A NEW SHOWER CURTAIN & BATH MATS.
A great way to bring some color and an interesting pattern into the bathroom can be a new, clean shower curtain and bathmats. Pick something bold that makes a personal statement, or is novelty themed, so it can become a topic for discussions when friends and family come over to visit.
3. REPLACE THE OLD FAUCET.
Maybe it leaks, maybe it’s stained, maybe it’s cracked, and it should be replaced. Getting rid of a leaky faucet will conserve water and save on utility bills, plus you can update the look of your bath vanity with some shiny new hardware.
4. ADD SOME VISUAL PUNCH WITH NEW TOWELS.
Towels, like the shower curtain are a great opportunity to add some color and texture into the powder room. You can add a complimenting solid color to you bathroom’s palette or use a pattern that incorporates the colors already in the room.
5. SPEND A WEEKEND APPLYING A FRESH COAT OF PAINT.
If you have the time to do it, a coat of paint can be a big pay off. Just give yourself enough time to not rush the job. Also leave enough time for the paint to dry and cure before you start bringing humidity back into the room.
6. REPLACE THE VANITY TOP.
This project is often teamed up with replacing the faucet, since you’ll need to disconnect the faucet anyway to do it. There are many choices available to you when looking to get a new vanity top; laminate, cultured marble, granite and engineered stone all have their advantages. This project can take an afternoon depending on the type of material you choose and the size of the vanity top being replaced.
7. PUT IN SOME NEW ACCESSORIES.
A new towel rack, shower rod or bath tissue holder could bring a bit of extra enhancement and a chance to upgrade the style of your bathroom. This is an easy job that can be done in less than a hour.
8. AND A GOOD OL’ FASHIONED SCRUBBING.
Nothing beats a sturdy brush and a hearty cleanser to bring back the shine and polish to your bathroom. Generally cleaning the bathroom is not the most popular of chores, but it’s a good place to start before doing anything to improve the look of your bathroom.
Whether you pick a few or all of the quick fixes on this list, you’ll find that getting your bathroom into shape for the holidays isn’t as much work as you may think.
